Hongbenghe is a very small village in Yunnan, right next to the border with Myanmar. A Barred Cuckoo-Dove showed somewhat atypical behavior or had not read its eBird entry about it being “seldom seen out in the open … quick to flee when approached” Of course, Hongbenghe, Yunnan is quite far away from Chicago.

Behind the marsh is a quarry, in front of it the Gulf of Argostoli, a small pine wood to the right and some eucalyptus trees to the left. Of course you do! In the approaching sunset, a male Common Kestrel is hunting… possibly some of the Common Quail whose “wet-my-lips” I can hear from the grass.

While visiting the Kakadu National Park, I was able to photograph this Rainbow Bee eater right after it had caught a dragonfly. Of course, the one bird pre-destined to be a favorite, would be the last new bird of the year. With him guiding the way, we were able to track down this Papuan Frogmouth, right along side the river bank.
