Although every dog is a unique individual, there are characteristics that are inherent in certain breeds which could help you find the right dog for your personality type. It’s important to take other factors into consideration when you are choosing the right breed. Bringing a dog into the family is no small decision. It’s a long-term commitment that involves an additional member of your household.

Pets come to depend on their owners, trusting them to do what’s best for them, and every owner should make the effort to treat their pet right. Just like people, pets that are not treated right can suffer from stress and other health problems, and an inadequate diet, for example, will make cats more prone to infections and illnesses. Looking after pets should be acknowledged as an important responsibility as well as a pleasure.

Hell, I'm met with condescension in my own country and my own home. And I'm in a "progressive" environment.

In responding to Suzie’s post defending wildlife rehabilitation I began to think again about the areas in which animal rights and animal welfare overlap with the field of conservation, and the ways in which they don’t. Animal rights is concerned with preventing the suffering or even use of animals by humans. He often defended that role in his books from animal rights activists who opposed “imprisoning” animals in zoos even if it saved them from extinction.

Good leftist that he is, Peter Singer doesn't let a crisis go to waste. Addendum: The argument seems to be as follows: It is inconsistent both (a) to eat meat and (b) to condemn (or mourn) the killing of Harambe; I condemn (or mourn) the killing of Harambe; therefore, I may no longer eat meat. Here are some objections: The first premise is false. The first premise is true, but I don't care about inconsistency.

" Two Animal Rights Conferences: Will you be there? " by Drew Wilson at Care2's animal welfare blog has yet to have any comments about rights and welfare. The post itself doesn't actually intentionally differentiate between the terms, but does align TAFA with reform and AR with rights (and then mentions Vegan Outreach). I don't know how big the readership of that blog is, but it is international if that matters.

I'm not sure how this fits into my support of animal rights though. We support two ocean protection organizations: People for Puget Sound (local) and the Ocean Conservancy. I was reading Ocean Conservancy's magazine today. For the past couple of issues I've read, it has had a "sustainable seafood recipe." I understand that they are trying to encourage people to eat fish and other marine life that are not part of a collapsing fishery. The purpose is to protect ocean species as a whole.

Having a pet is a wonderful and rewarding experience. There’s a reason so many of us call our dogs our best friends. However, all too often, dog lovers choose a dog breed that they want without first considering how well that breed will fit in with their lifestyle. Yes, we fall in love with certain breeds: the short ones with long bodies, the adorable ones with wrinkles all over, or the hound dog with long, droopy ears.
