PETA Goes After Canada's Seal Hunt
JUNE 16, 2009
PETA has launched a spoof site for the Vancouver Olympic Games over seal hunting. Seal hunting is just plain wrong. I criticize PETA a lot, but in this case I think they are right on the money. I hate the seal slaughter. I think it's barbaric and should be ended. You can go on and on about tradition, but just because something is old doesn't make it good. Slavery used to be a tradition in some societies. I like Canada.
Canada and Greenland Defend Seal Hunting

Canadian fisheries ministry representative Garry Stenson said the hunt “is humane, well regulated and sustainable” and that new rules for the hunt were under review to strengthen inspections, monitoring and enforcement of animal welfare rules. Texas May Allow Aerial Hunting of Wild Pigs

This doesn't sound good. Millions of wild pigs weighing up to 300 pounds have been tearing up crops, trampling fences and eating just about anything in their path in Texas. But now they had better watch their hairy backs. A state lawmaker is proposing to allow ordinary Texans with rifles and shotguns to shoot the voracious, tusked animals from helicopters. Trophy Hunters Imperil Polar Bears
MARCH 23, 2009
They are not hunting for food or for any subsistence whatsoever. It's all about the thrill of the hunt and, sorry to say it, the thrill of the testosterone surge. Therefore, to me it's a slam dunk as to whether trophy hunters should continue to hunt polar bears. If a species' very survival is threatened, then it is impractical to hunt it for mere entertainment. And I don't believe the argument that Inuit villages will collapse without the revenue from these hunts.
