Trader Joe's Eggs NOT Humane
SEPTEMBER 7, 2009
Here's what they say about Trader Joe's eggs (definitely does not sound humane to me.) I decided to look online for some information regarding the "Organic Free Range Eggs" that Trader Joe's, my favorite store, sells. Here is what their web site says. A Note About Eggs At Trader Joe's we listen to what our customers tell us about the choices we give them. Thanks to their valued feedback, in 2005 we made an important change in our egg selection.

Rats help save humans.
4 The Love Of Animals
APRIL 25, 2010
Rats help save humans. Long before CAT scans, X-rays, blood samples and colonoscopies, physicians used the good sense they were born with: their sense of smell. That’s because bacterias, cancers and infections create unique smells. Sweet, fruity breath could mean diabetes.

Best Opinion Ever on Humans and Nature
DECEMBER 5, 2009
He wants to save the planet for humans alone. Tags: nature climate change human behavior environment uganda At least to me. Read it yourself as I can't do it justice. It's by a Ugandan political scientist. I'm sure it will make a lot of people angry. But it crystallizes the conclusions I've been heading towards for the last 40 years. By the way, if you ever read Jared Diamond's Collapse, you'll understand why I also think this is the perfect response to his book.
Why Humans Are the Only Ones with Rights
AUGUST 24, 2011
Someone posted a question about why humans have human rights and whether they should considering that others do not. Please note the vast generalizations here, but, in the areas of religion, at least orthodox religion and there are varying levels of how fundamental you want to go, there is only one species with a soul and that is the human. In the matter of science, and there are varying levels of this viewpoint, the human is the most advanced of creatures.

Humane Society Likes Obama's Animal Welfare Picks
DECEMBER 20, 2008
And, in general, the Humane Society and its Legislative Fund likes them. Tags: Obama humane society USDA us I bet you didn't realize that Obama had any animal welfare picks, but he did. They are very enthusiastic about Tom Vilsack, the proposed Secretary of Agriculture. In fact, he was their top choice. They're not so sure about Ken Salazar as Secretary of the Interior, but they see some promise.
Humane Society Endorses Obama
SEPTEMBER 24, 2008
The Obama-Biden ticket is the better choice on animal protection, and we urge all voters who care about the humane treatment of animals, no matter what their party affiliation, to vote for them. As an Illinois state senator, he backed at least a dozen animal protection laws, including those to strengthen the penalties for animal cruelty, to help animal shelters, to promote spaying and neutering, and to ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption.
Ag's Reaction to Ohio Deal with Humane Society
JULY 4, 2010
Yesterday, I raised the issue that some may think the Humane Society copped out by making a deal with Ohio agriculture and NOT bringing new animal welfare regulations to the ballot. SRI Denies Access to the Humane Society
NOVEMBER 23, 2010
A Menlo Park research facility Monday refused to allow a humane society representative to check up on a monkey that bit a female lab worker the day before. SRI International officials said the lab worker is OK and because their facility is under federal oversight, the Peninsula Humane Society doesn't have to be given access to its research animals. Humane Society Exposes Petland Practices
DECEMBER 11, 2008
The Humane Society has another great investigation into the shady practices of a corporate giant. Not so, says the Humane Society. This news story slipped by in November. This time it's Petland, who I'm glad to say has no stores in my area (that I know of.) It has about 140 stores nationwide that sell puppies that supposedly come from "good" breeders (are any breeders good? but that's another post.) Among the investigation findings.
Humans Not Natural Milk Drinkers
SEPTEMBER 6, 2009
I've heard this before, but it's fascinating every time it comes up. There is such a push in society to drink milk for calcium for strong bones. But really, it's not natural for us to be drinking milk past infancy. It's the perfect example of a market being created out of nothing. Of misinformation that is repeated so often it becomes fact. If you really think about it, how many prehistoric people were grabbing pregnant cows to suckle on? Lactose intolerant people are actually the normal ones.
Animal Diseases Poised to Spread to Humans
JANUARY 11, 2010
The world is facing a growing threat from new diseases that are jumping the human-animal species barrier as a result of environmental disruption, global warming and the progressive urbanisation of the planet, scientists have warned. At least 45 diseases that have passed from animals to humans have been reported to UN agencies in the last two decades, with the number expected to escalate in the coming years. And people actually believe we've conquered nature?
More Humane Method of Killing Chickens?

On Nonhuman Animals and Human Babies
JULY 6, 2010
As long as the animals aren't on a farm or otherwise being used by humans, I love the idea of animals in the lives of babies. Human animals and nonhuman animals share many characteristics, but one trumps the rest: the capacity to feel pleasure and pain, boredom and frustration.
Salmon Threatened by Humans, Not Sea Lions
APRIL 4, 2010
Here's someone else who agrees with me that sea lions are not the true threat to salmon. She highlights dams, but that is only one of the four H's (hydro, harvest, habitat and hatcheries) that are obliterating this beautiful creature. I think this opinion is pretty wide-spread. It's just easier to kill sea lions that to break down dams.
On Humane Societies and Calf-Roping
JULY 1, 2009
