You can help pets in need through the month of December by donating food, supplies or cash which will then benefit more than 70 community animal shelters across the U.S. The holiday season can be challenging for local shelters and rescues, says Renee Coughlin of Best Friends Pet Care. The program runs through January 2nd, with deliveries being made to the shelters throughout the holiday season. I was really excited to hear about an Angel Tree program for pets.

National Shelter Appreciation Week is November 4-10. Help spread the word by supporting your local shelter with a “Shelter Drive-by”! What is a Shelter Drive-by? Take a few minutes before your next grocery store trip and look online at the wish list of one of your local shelters. Double check that the shelter is a 501(c)3 non-profit. Things like paper towels, cleaning supplies and garbage bags are often on shelter wish lists.

Shelter Animals for Adoption Awareness. The Holiday Season will come early for Manhattan & Brooklyn shelter dogs and cats. Rock & Rawhide is a non-profit organization who aims to increase adoptions and quality of life for dogs and cats in shelters, by providing distraction therapy and noise/stress reduction through the donations of toys, tough chew items, Kongs, Nylabones, bones, rawhides, blankets and more. 10,000 Tennis Balls to be Released to New York City.
