Two giant pandas made their way from China to ZooParc de Beauval in France today. The pandas, three year old female Huan Huan and three year old male panda Yuan Zi, will be the first giant pandas in more than 10 years to be in France.

The song of the skylark is also heard across the Channel in France, where the bird is known as the alouette of children’s song fame. Our wine for this week is the 2017 Cuvée Alouettes from Domaine de la Chanteleuserie, a single varietal-wine made from Cabernet Franc, a black grape known locally in the Loire Valley as Cabernet Breton.

Alphonse Milne-Edwards (1835-1900), a director to the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, whose study of bird fossils led to the discovery of tropical birds such as trogons and parrots from prehistoric France. eBird admits that the black chin of the Black-chinned Yuhina is “not very noticeable” But it is a cute bird.
