HSUS Video about Feral Cat Rescue
NOVEMBER 19, 2009
So here is a nice story and video about a HSUS rescue of a California feral colony. Tags: HSUS california animal rescue feral cats I've been way overworked and stressed lately. Haven't been into deep posts at all. It makes me want to get back into animal rescue, which is where my animal rights activism started.

On Google, HSUS and Fur
AUGUST 16, 2009
If you haven't seen the latest discussion about the perils of using AdSense, check out HSUS' Michael Markarian's Blog on Huffington Post is Advertising Fur , and its comments, which include a defense by HSUS. The comments also include a suggestion that HuffPo (and presumably HSUS) develop an ethics policy that governs what may show up on their blogs if Google isn't willing to filter out fur ads. The animals in Hebei Province need HSUS to be smarter than this.

On What the Animal Ag Alliance Thinks of Us
MAY 30, 2009
Through all of the damage control and message-neutralizing I have to do due to PeTA campaigns or someone lumping me with PeTA--or the HSUS, for that matter--I always remember that the real enemy of my cause is someone who wants to convince the world that there is nothing wrong with using animals when we have no need to and who profits from the "production" and slaughter of sentient nonhumans. The HSUS isn't even anti-hunting !

4 The Love Of Animals
OCTOBER 24, 2011
Benjamin is a major, recognized supporter of HSUS, a role he clearly lived up to at the Gala. He was also able to get Cathy Kangas of PRAI Cosmetics to match his Dog Rescue bid, raising an additional $25,000 for The HSUS Animal Rescue Team and helping to save 100 more animals.
VERY IMPORTANT POST! Humane Society Launches Whistleblowing Line for Chimpanzee Research
MARCH 6, 2010
chimpanzee research laboratories, Humane Society newspaper advertisements and billboards urge anyone with information about poor treatment of chimpanzees or other animals in research facilities to call The HSUS’ confidential hotline: 1-866-293-HSUS. This is important. Pass it around. From the Advertiser. The Humane Society has launched a confidential whistleblower hotline for employees of chimpanzee research laboratories to anonymously report alleged abuses.
Who is Jennifer Fearing?
JANUARY 29, 2009
Pretty impressive bio (please note that the bio is from her time at HSUS). I got curious today and googled "Jennifer Fearing," the woman who led the Yes on Proposition 2 campaign. It turns out that she was the former Humane Society Chief Economist. She used to head United Animal Nations too. I couldn't find any information on her current activities. Probably taking a much needed break.
Patriots and Steelers Eye "Sick Vick" for Signing
JULY 29, 2009
Pretty savvy on HSUS' part? Well, I know two teams I may not be rooting for next season. (Of Of course, I've disliked the Patriots ever since their coach was caught with filming other teams. And the Steelers? Not since they were handed the Super Bowl over the Seahawks. Worst officiating EVER!) Plus, I personally have no room for forgiveness for Sick Vick. Others may, but I don't. What do you all think about his upcoming work for the Humane Society? Or are they trying to get publicity?
Humane Society Cites Abuses at University of Minnesota
MARCH 19, 2010
The HSUS learned of the violations through the U.S. vice president of animal research issues for The HSUS. All this stuff makes me sick. Don't give me that slop about universities being better than corporations. I don't care if they're supposedly working for altruistic purposes (they're not, but that's another story), they are allowing animals to suffer through negligent care separate from the excruciating experiments they must still undergo. What BS.
Turkey Abuse in West Virginia Aviagen Plant
NOVEMBER 29, 2008
If you’re caught by PETA or HSUS, please do not plead ignorance and vow to clean it up. Overlooked this one. Another nasty farm animal abuse story. Whatever you think about PETA, I admire them for exposing this crap. It's even got Chuck Jolley from the Cattle Network riled up. Bottom line: If you’re running a business where you allow the kinds of shortcuts that let animal abuse happen, please sell it and leave the industry now. Find another line of work.
Is Shelter Appreciation Week a Sham?
NOVEMBER 8, 2009
Nathan Winograd has an interesting piece in the Examiner about the recent HSUS Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. HSUS’ latest public relations gimmick is part of a larger attempt by the very animal control officers responsible for this neglect and abuse to reform their image from one of “dog catcher” to “humane law enforcement.” It's not that he's unappreciative of people that work with animals, but rather the state of many of the shelters that are being appreciated.
Update on National Meat Association vs. Brown
SEPTEMBER 8, 2009
A coalition of animal protection groups consisting of the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Farm Sanctuary, and the Humane Farming Association (HFA), intervened in the case to ensure that the interests of animals and the public were represented. Did anyone know this was going on? The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit recently heard arguments in National Meat Association v.
Humane Society Likes Obama's Animal Welfare Picks
DECEMBER 20, 2008
HSUS is also happy about Lisa Jackson heading the EPA. I bet you didn't realize that Obama had any animal welfare picks, but he did. And, in general, the Humane Society and its Legislative Fund likes them. They are very enthusiastic about Tom Vilsack, the proposed Secretary of Agriculture. In fact, he was their top choice. They're not so sure about Ken Salazar as Secretary of the Interior, but they see some promise.
Please Share "Silencing the Lambs"
JULY 25, 2010
I understand how someone who supports the Humane Society of the United States might think an event celebrating "humane" farms would be a good id, as HSUS isn't an animal rights organization. Thanks, once again, to James LaVeck and Jenny Stein of Tribe of Heart for kindly and carefully bringing attention to what should be a stunningly-obvious moment of hypocrisy by groups that exist to advocate for and save animals.
Humane Society University to Offer Courses in Fall 2009
JUNE 21, 2009
The HSUS is the first animal welfare organization to receive such authority and distinction. Very cool! I've been looking for something like this for a long time. From the Humane Society's press release.

On Fighting for "Animal Rights"
APRIL 5, 2011
would call HSUS an animal rights group (after all, HSUS doesn't even do that). Being featured on ARZone's worldwide Live Guest Chat has reinvigorated my thinking about a couple of topics ( here 's the transcript). And then I read the "OMG!!!!!OED!!!!!LOL!!!!!" OED!!!!!LOL!!!!!" LOL!!!!!" in today's New York Times, and I couldn't resist posting.
Are You Wearing Man's Best Friend? That Trim on the Hood of Your Jacket Might Be Dog Fur!
DECEMBER 24, 2006
As reported in the AP story, two styles of Sean John jackets—one a hooded snorkel style, the other a classic version—were originally advertised as faux fur, but an investigation by the Humane Society of the United States [ HSUS ] found that the jackets were made from dog fur. According to HSUS's investigation (detailed in their press release ), the Sean John Hooded Snorkel Jacket on sale at macys.com for $237.99
Animal Rights is Pernicious Nonsense?
MAY 10, 2009
However, both his perceptions and misconceptions are based on: 1) observing the work of PeTA and HSUS; and 2) the assumption that those two organizations are in the same category--"animal rights." In " 'Animal Rights:' Pernicious Nonsense for Both Law & Public Policy ," Massachusetts attorney and "sportsman" Richard Latimer is on the mark with some concepts, and way off with others.
