At 3-4 inches long , they rival those of the great Grizzly Bear, and allow the Harpy Eagles to go after prey unavailable to many other birds. A Harpy Eagle. Like Woods, I can’t get over their talons. These eagles are known to take down Howler Monkeys, baby deer, and sloths, just to name a few of their favorite meals.

You know, the Bison, Elk, Bears and Wolves. We did not ever see a Grizzly Bear, but we did see a Black Bear , although it was way too far away for a picture. Whenever one thinks about Yellowstone, the first though for the majority of folks is probably the animals.

2 Horned Puffin – Fratercula corniculata On my trip to Alaska, and the beautiful island of Kodiak to photograph the grizzly bears, my one wish was to track down and photograph the Puffins. While still a subspecies of the Bushtit , this is another bird that I am cheering on to get to be its own species some day. #2

We quickly came upon a pair of Gray Jays, a lifer, hopping through the technicolor birches and I set up to try to take a few photos when my companion yelled out, “BEAR!” ” A mid-sized Grizzly Bear was slowly making its way along the opposite bank of the river.

While in Kodiak Alaska, I did get a few very nice Kodiak Grizzly Bear shots. This large bear was chasing salmon, and paid me little or no attention. The Northern Cardinals that inhabit this area tend to stay in cover and the dense thorn bushes, so getting this male up on top of this cactus was a treat.
