OCTOBER 19, 2008
I'm struck by how two friends of mine used to be vegetarians before I met them and then switched to meat because their doctors said they "needed" the meat. Does anyone "need" meat? Or do they just need the protein? I think this is ideological BS on the part of their doctors.

Leona Helmsley's Fortune Goes to Medical Research
APRIL 23, 2009
Over $100 million went to medical research while about $1 million went to animal welfare causes. But a group of trustees got together, determined she was mentally unfit at the time, and decided to “responsibly” donate to medical research instead. It’s more money for medical research. I believe that medical research produces procedures and drugs that most humans either 1) can’t afford or 2) pay for and end up with huge medical debts.

Seal Industry Tries to Capitalize on Medical Researchers Conjectures
SEPTEMBER 12, 2011
While I'm not a fan of using animal hearts for transplants, I'm far more sympathetic to that than to simply using their parts for human vanity consumption. But the seal industry doesn't care. They'll exploit anything to try to save their barbaric trade and, if they can use guilt, even better. Excerpted from the Chronicle-Herald.
Vast Majority of Medical Schools Do NOT Use Animals To Teach Surgery
APRIL 18, 2010
Only three accredited medical schools in the whole country use animals to teach surgery. Dr. Pippin told me there's a good reason all the other 150-plus medical schools in the country don't use animals in surgical education: There are better ways to teach surgery. A paper published by the New England Journal of Medicine backs him up, asserting that simulators are effective training devices for medical residents.

Animal Welfare Concerns May Be Influencing UK Animal Research

In a very depressing fight, every sign is worth something.

People Think There Are a Ton of Chimpanzees Out There

And, of course, if they are so severely endangered, why are so many carelessly exploited for medical experimentation? Tags: rant chimpanzees medical research endangered species The public in general has a warped understanding of chimpanzees. If you go by the media, there are a ton of them out there. They are in zoos, circuses, commercials, movies, etc. If they are members of an endangered species, why are there so many of them around? It's a bad perception problem for chimps.

It's a horrible topic and I post news articles about the abuses from time to time. But I want to be able to argue about it intelligently, citing science, not just morals. Apparently, there is a lot of argument out there than animal experimentation is even good for humans. Many times tests fail.
