Yet, there is one group of birds where even I prefer photographs: gulls. On the other hand, I do not feel confident in my knowledge of gulls to give a definite answer. Last weekend I accompanied a small group of intrepid birders to El Cerro del Aripo, the tallest peak on the island at about 940m. But when we stumbled upon a small group of Red-crowned Ant-Tanagers I swiftly changed my tactics and opted for the camera-in-hand approach. A productive morning, I thought. Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush.

The eBird cartoonists call the Spot-breasted Parrotbill a “bulbous-headed brown bird with a comically large bill” As a foreigner living in China and thus used to having my nose size ridiculed, I definitely feel with the parrotbills. In one group, they added a blue egg to their nests. What a pity.)
