Aïthurus polytmus , a family of Red-billed Streamerbirds depicted in a print dated between 1820 and 1860 from the Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam. Superstitions about the Red-tailed Streamerbird’s supernatural powers continue today and it’s considered bad luck to kill one. I can think of no higher honor.

Recently, a group of nature photographers were spotted using live fish to bait a family of Grey-headed Fish Eagles in Singapore, where the species is listed as Critically Endangered, with only about 12-18 breeding individuals left in the wild. A Grey-headed Fish Eagle photographed ethically. Doing so, however, presented a few problems.

The Greater Roadrunner , a member of the cuckoo family, is native to much of the Southwestern United States, and northern Mexico. They are quite capable of killing and eating the venomous rattlesnakes of this desert region.
