In my continuing tour of the many sites for birding here in the Tucson, Arizona area, I have run across the Sam Lena Park, and athletic complex. Cattails line parts of the ponds, all of this giving shelter to a very nice variety of birds. One of my “First of Year” birds for Arizona was this lovely Yellow Warbler.

There were still birds feeding on the reef as the tide pushed in fast and these were mostly migratory shorebirds and also Reef Egrets. We went bush-walking down a dirt road near the Fortescue River last month to see what bird-life was about. There were plenty of small family groups of White-winged Fairywrens and Purple-backed Fairywrens. We were not walking fast, because there were too many birds to enjoy. The joy of bird-watching! The Red Wattlebird, Spotted Doves and Common Mynas are the most common birds on this trail. There are a lot of small sheltered bays along the coast and you can choose to walk along the beach or promenade. On the sheltered side of several jetties I came across small groups of up to seven Hoary-headed Grebes bobbing along.
