The African Pygmy Goose to me looks a bit like an annoying teenager on a subway train who wants to highlight the fact that he wears enormous earphones. These Hadada Ibis were right in the garden of the place where we stayed. It still looks pretty much like a Purple Swamphen to me. In a distinct color.

Swarms of swallows zip past and a crazy train of Chimney Swifts can stretch from horizon to horizon. The bulk of birds, though, move along the coast and through the northern lowlands.

Our bus ride to the train that would take us to the boat launch led through monoculture pineapple plantations being sprayed with pesticides that were not a pretty sight, but the view of the sun breaking through the clouds over the mountains (like in the picture above) was inspiring. The train system is fast and efficient and was our primary mode of transport. If the train did not go all of the way then we took a connecting bus or walked. We dropped our bags and got changed and hopped back on the train to go to the end of the line at Pasir Ris. There was something “not right” about it.
