Then there is an area all around the park that has grass, barbecues, shelters and a play area. As usual there is a beautifully constructed bower made of sticks and a great collection of items to attract the female bird. What is surprising is that despite being surrounded by houses the birds have mostly collected natural items.

It turned out to be an inspired choice, because my usual style of birding — parking at a trailhead and walking kilometers away from both my car and most other forms of shelter — would indeed have been disastrous. Instead, I was able to stick close to my car, taking shelter in it when necessary, and still see lots of birds.

This oak was my first success with collected acorns. I have successfully started, from wild-collected seeds and cuttings, food sources for birds such as Coral Trees, Cassias, Chokecherries, and lots of Oaks. I now protect the lots Huizaches, which shelter self-sown fruiting plants such as Granjenos and Prickly Pears.

The best walk for observing the rock art in the park that is accessible to the public is the Jinumun walk and it follows the bed of the Keep River to a site once used by the Miriwoong people as a shelter during the Wet Season. At other sites they will collect items of a less natural state to lure a mate.
