I’ve always birded from home for as long as I can remember. Now, every day I end up subconsciously birding from before my eyes open in the morning. Not being a fan of human structures in my images, I’ve never done much bird photography at home. Tropical Mockingbirds on a neighbor’s tree. Great Kiskadee.

Just the Tip

I spent the early hours of Sunday morning taking the long trudge out to the tip of Breezy Point, the southwesternmost part of Queens. Strong northwest winds gave me hope of finding a Cave Swallow , a Western Kingbird , a Northern Shrike , or some other interesting bird. Oh well, they were probably late Tree Swallows anyway.

I was therefore eager to visit this popular birding site again, and being able to combine it with my trip to Texel (which I covered here in my last post ) made it all the more convenient. I’ve seen this bird many times now but I still always take my time looking at them, as even in their non-breeding plumage they look very elegant.

Birds at the Breezy Point Tip

On Saturday morning I decided to look for early migrants and lingering winter birds out at the southeasternmost part of Queens, the tip of Breezy Point. And, of course, it is a great spot to see scoters and other seaducks, especially from the jetty, the tip of which is far as you can go in Queens without getting into the ocean.
