It is often useful to look at satellite images on Google Earth to see where there is suitable habitat for different bird species. Sometimes it can be disappointing when the area has changed due to development and other times you can find some unlikely birds. It even followed the arrows on the road!!! Barred Buttonquail.

They come here knowing that although the official bird list for Costa Rica is replete with everything from Bonaparte’s Gull to Gray-hooded Gull and Least Tern , if they do any amount of gull watching, they’ll be lucky if they see anything more than Laughing Gulls. I visited the reservoir to learn about the environmental controversy surrounding the Rodman Dam (to remove, or not to remove), but the birds completely distracted me. There are few places I have seen with more birds than Rodman Reservoir. I not only appreciated the diversity of species, but also just how many birds there were.

One of the best features about Singapore is the fact that wherever you go there are birds. Admittedly we did not go into the downtown area once during our three week stay, but wherever there are trees there are birds and Singapore is a green city.
