There was a Gartered Trogon right above me, and one cooperative Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth on a cecropia tree, raising its head to smile at us.

Near Summit Lake we have been able to witness Williamson’s Sapsuckers ( Sphyrapicus thyroideus ) raising their young in a snag near the campground. American Coots ( Fulica americana ) raise their young at the park also. And Red-breasted Sapsuckers (Sphyrapicus ruber) are common. She is in a snag, at least forty feet up!

There are plenty of gliders out there, including mammals, snakes, and lizards, so gliding without powered flight is a thing. Paleontologists have suggested that rather than flight, early dinosaur-bird critters would have glided.
