As it learns to hunt and live on its own, the young bird has taken up residence in a tree right in front of the farm. Like a spy or avian investigator, I can scope them right through the front door, watch them at will.

Sure enough, the owl flew in closer and posed proudly on a snag right beside the road. I could hardly contain my excitement as I gazed at a Great Gray Owl and watched it hunt through someone else’s scope. Within minutes, I spotted a crisp, cold white bird flying right in front of the car.

And that is why the hides are where they are, not to admire the scenery (or shoot at it – hunting is prohibited in the reserve and the ban is enforced). And so did I.

I was able to convince Murray Hunt to take us out for a morning cruise on the Daintree River, despite late notice, and that it was a Sunday morning that looked to be really crappy weather. This Male Shiny Flycatcher showed up right at the end of the trip. This Little Bronze Cuckoo , is also know as the Gould’s Cuckoo.
