Looking for Lost Warblers at Parque Rio Loro, Costa Rica

Established to protect a watershed and used for environmental education in the eastern Central Valley, Rio Loro has a few nice trails, picnic tables, and even has a small canopy tower (!). No, not a warbler but big enough to be one and a star in its own right. Yes, you read that right. Violet Sabrewing.

It occurred right in the area where I expected a Harpy Eagle to be seen, in part of an extensive, little explored forest complex connected to the Indio Maiz Reserve, a large, extremely important area of lowland rainforest in Nicaragua that still hosts a population of the large eagles.

They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). Lucky him, right? Blue-throated Bee-eaters build nests on sticks sticking out of the water. Though he ended up dead anyway. Then, there are raptors.

New Jersey Bear Hunt to Continue as Planned

Despite efforts by animal rights activists to stop this hunt, it is scheduled to continue. New Jersey’s first bear hunt in five years is just a week away and set to go on as planned despite a last-ditch effort by several animal rights organizations to have the hunt postponed. That really sucks. It's a cull to "control the population."
