In field guides I’ve seen many beautiful gull paintings, where I couldn’t help asking myself: however alluring they may be, is the JIZZ just right? On the other hand, I do not feel confident in my knowledge of gulls to give a definite answer.

Left – 2nd edition, right – 3rd edition So, not much has changed since the 2nd edition? Yet, still a gauntlet thrown to other publishers, too.

Watching this rhythmic group behavior was actually quite hypnotic. One distant Violetear was positioned just right for us to see its full irridescent colors, although a small branch between us kept my camera from focusing exactly. Las Mesas is not my best hummingbird spot, but it’s definitely in my top 3.

To the right of the toucan, a Scaled Pigeon still rests comfortably, while one of many pairs of Orange-winged Parrots flies past in the background. Dusky-capped Flycatcher (lower right) and a Rufous-tailed Jacamar. We also saw a small group of Guianan Red Howler Monkeys feeding nearby. Turquoise Tanager.
