A Cuckoo in Costa Rica Brings in the Birders

10,000 Birds

Many a birder with years of experience in the Neotropical region has never ever seen or heard an RVG. Stealthy, quiet, sneaky and smart, the forest roadrunner is like a feathered cat. The Collared Finchbill

10,000 Birds

And of course, there is the expected paper characterizing the mitochondrial genome of Collared Finchbill. Cry “Havoc!” or a Birding Movie before the Birding Movie

10,000 Birds

Can you remember any birding movie before Schrodinger’s Cat? What made the story better (and a worse experience for him) was the fact that the cops had seen the Dogs of War. Finally, the Schrodinger’s Cat is, of course, The Big Year (2011). Probably not. And they knew that “birders” were highly suspicious characters.

Solid Air: Invisible Killer Saving Billions of Birds From Windows–A Book Review

10,000 Birds

An estimated one billion birds collide with glass each year in the United States* and most of them die; window collisions are considered the second highest cause of death of birds after cats (putting aside the big overall causes, like habitat loss and climate change).* There are far fewer photographs of dead birds than I expected.
