The Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus has been one of my favourite birds since I was little. Look at it close up and it does look grotesque. I couldn’t describe it better than Willoughby Verner did in his book “ My Life Among the Wild Birds in Spain ” published in 1909: “ It is when the Egyptian Vulture or Neophron, as it is also styled, is seen close at hand that it is revealed in all its hideousness.

Some even do this so often that images of their hybrids will be included in bird guidebooks. When this happens particularly often, such hybridization processes can result in entirely new species.

As a little child, I´ve always liked watching birds fly around and imagined, what it would be like flying around on my own whenever I feel like it and not having to sit in an airplane full of nice people. Anyway, as I grew older, I started to view birds differently, rather in a superficial way, just judging them by their looks or whether they appeared “cute” or “pretty”.

Stray kittens disappeared Hi all So like a week ago a family of 5 cats randomly appeared outside my society, they looked like they had been dumped because one of them had a good collar on and the moms fur was too good to be stray. The family consisted of 1 mom, 3 small kittens, and one fully grown kitten of the same mom. So I've been feeding them past few days.

We recently moved to a new student house in the UK and have found a family of rats by the door. We have counted 5 but there could be more. It appears they live in a crack by the door mat. In our last house, we had a lot of them in our shed and someone reported it to our housing agents and got pest control to handle them with poison. Obviously, we would like to avoid this method of removing them but don't know what we can do.

My kid was asking me if a lion could take on an elephant and I was telling him no way the elephant is too big and then the conversation spun off into a whole thing about who was the strongest/toughest. I have to think polar bears, tigers, hippos, rhinos, gorillas, and elephants are all in the conversation here. I can’t see an elephant 1 on 1 getting taken down by any of them but can someone with more knowledge help out here?

So my boyfriend and I had a stray dog run up to us in our neighborhood, she seems to be about 7 months, back teeth were just breaking in the day she found us. We decided on keeping her and made sure she had no microchip. Right now we’re thinking she is a basset hound mixed with something else…maybe a wiener dog or beagle? Neither of us have a lot of prior dog knowledge.

So there was this kind of higher pitched hissing noise I heard at night and went to do my usual research whenever I see or hear something new. The closest thing I found to it was a burrowing owl hiss. It was actually really spot on. However, burrowing owls don’t live in my area of the US on the northern east coast. Anyone know something that makes a similar sound?

Today a big frog (5-6 inches) appeared in my house, since im not afraid of it my dad asked me to take it outside, I grabbed a paper towel and used it to pick the frog up, without thinking too much I threw it outside but the paper stuck to it, is this going to hurt the frog???

TL;DR, helped a hummingbird outside. I gently grazed it with my finger while trying to get it, and I don’t know how fragile they are. Basically, a hummingbird somehow got stuck on the second level of my building, and was trying to get through glass. It wasn’t injured or anything, and with some help I eventually got it to the first floor, where I had to catch it before I could let it out of the door.

Nobody around me cares about nature or anything, I love to talk about birds, plants, bugs, many different animals, etc. I’ve never had anyone to talk about it with because nobody cares though. Would be nice to meet someone who’s into nature too and I could learn a lot more from them. I’m always brushed off by people though and no one finds me interesting.

Ill try my best to describe this animal. I live on mexico but when i was in fourth grade i had alot of ticks in my hair. Not surprising for someone that used to shower once a week. But i pulled out an spider-like animal. The torso was in a bright red colour, and had around 4-5 white legs. I didn’t notice any head if i remember it. But im curious if i just discovered a new insect or what animal it is.

My dog and I were in the yard today when I heard a squeaking noise like a baby bird - I looked over and i my dog was sniffing hard at the ground, I went over and he had a baby bunny in front of him, very small with its eyes not open yet. He picked it up in his mouth while I tried to get it away from him (he’s 75 pounds so I struggled to get him away from the nest and he’s attacked full frown rabbits before; he has a strong predictor instinct for rabbits) I saw the nest and ran to grab something

No he wasnt in any life danger but if he was his dog could of saved his life. My grandpa has a dog, her name is Susie, my grandpa is a diabetic. Anyways I was sleeping over at my grandpa's house and I'm a heavy sleeper and was annoyed Susie kept jumping on me then I heard my grandpa's blood sugar checker or whatever it beeps when his blood sugar too high or low.

Hi so my neighbor and I have had a peacock feud for years. He never feeds his birds and there are always ripping up my yard and attacking me and my dog. The peahen comes every day to eat the cat food. She hatched babies today in MY YARD which she does every year. My neighbor will literally come over just to collect the babies and sells them. I don’t have an issue with the bird I have an issue with him neglecting them just to sell the babies.

Help! Bf bitten by a stray kitten My bf was trying to move a kitten out of his way at a work site behind a warehouse where the guys feed a lot of stray cats. The kitten was aggressive and scared, and he bit by bf on the tip of his finger. This was yesterday at 11am, so about a day and a half ago. The bite broke skin barely but it was still enough to draw a little blood.

I found them in my burn pit, underneath all the soot very glad they didn’t get roasted the night before when we burned it. We have no clue what they are or how old they are. We want to know how to take care of them properly but the internet isn’t helping… no mother that I could find. They hate light and begin to squirm and hide their faces when exposed to it.

Had walked home and there was a squirrel on the next door neighbor’s house looking at me as it did it’s alarm call. Was it because it saw me or did it see something else? It seemed to stop when I got in my house. Do they sometimes get bothered by humans? I definitely never bother squirrels though, but my sister has chased some before as a joke while I was with her.

After parkrun on Saturday, I noticed a small crow hopping around near my car. Tow larger crows (assume parents) were in the trees making a racket. The small crow must have been the youngster and hadn't mastered flight yet. There was a small wall, about two foot high, that separated the roads and the park, so I thought I need to get the youngster over the wall.
