Since 2006, Angels in Fur has rescued and rehomed approximately 1,000 abandoned dogs from the pound or neglectful owners, many needing orthopedic surgery and months of rehabilitation. The campaign will run from July 30th to August 31st to donate up to 5,000 pounds of food to this very special group.

Finding this elusive and beautiful species at Pino Real kind of put me “on the map” with my wonderful group of Mexican birder friends. I would have guessed it would be the first species to abandon this now-disturbed site. Chestnut-sided Shrike-Vireos are still present! But, thank God, it has not.

Now that I am living here on the Southern Mexican Baja, a new group of flycatchers have taken center stage. Nesting in tree cavities, and abandoned woodpecker holes in the Cardon Cactus, these birds have adapted quite nicely to the arid Mexican Desert. I do still get to see an occasional Pacific-slope Flycatcher every now and then.
