Animal Researchers' Emotional Blackmail
NOVEMBER 14, 2009
Here's a succinct letter to the editor that summarizes the emotional blackmail propogated by animal researchers. The million dollar ad campaign by the Foundation for Biomedical Research (“Critical research,” Nov. It is all about convincing us that a cure for everything is just around the corner as long as we keep funding their animal research gravy train. Tags: animal research drug companies medical research
Animal Research Scientists Sponsor Billboards
MAY 5, 2011
animal researchWell, you know how they are.going for the emotion and oversimplifying the issue. Certainly not showing what they do, how they are funded and how the licensing of their "altruistic" work nets them a tidy sum. This billboard poses the issue as an either/or.save the child or the rat. Bullshit. It's not that simple. How many of these experiments are even necessary? How many of them are of the quality of checking to see whether junk food makes someone fat? Please.
More Criticism of Animal Research
APRIL 13, 2010
More criticism of the quality of animal research. Here is the Editor of "New Scientist" who suppports animal research, BUT he points out the terrible quality of the research and reliability of the results. It really hurts the scientific community's arguments that animal research saves lives. Sounds like some researchers are just making a ton of money off this thing. How come so much animal research is second-rate?

Student Researcher Says "Hooray for Animal Research"
OCTOBER 13, 2009
Freeman says that the most difficult thing he has encountered so far in his research comes not from the lab, but from people’s attitudes about animal testing. He said this research, along with other research that could vastly improve human quality of life, could absolutely not be done without animal testing, and wishes more people understood that “animal research is not cruel or inhumane, it benefits us all.” Does it benefit the animals?

Animal Researchers Promote Sob Stories
OCTOBER 12, 2009
I don't support animal research and I have no sympathy for animal researchers. I don't believe they want an honest dialogue about what they are doing to animals. I don't believe they are "brave" for "standing up" to animal rights activists. I think they are clever cowards who use extremists to hide their work and to obfuscate the truth about what they do to animals and whether it is truly necessary.
Animal Research Booming in State of Victoria

Animals for research purposes are coming from municipal shelters, breeders and the greyhound trade. In 2007, 394 dogs died during procedures for canine and human research. None of the animal shelters contacted by the Herald Sun have come across ex-research dogs in need of a home. RSPCA state president Dr Hugh Wirth slammed municipal pounds for being involved in the research trade.

But animal research is necessary, they also claim, because there are simply no other alternatives.
Animal Research Grants a Waste of Taxpayer Money
MARCH 14, 2010
President Obama promised to eliminate wasteful government spending; funding for animal research is one area that is overdue for reform. Each year, millions of cats, dogs, non-human primates and other animals suffer and die in research laboratories. World Week for Animals in Laboratories (April 17-24) exposes their plight and the broken federal research funding system that perpetuates outdated animal experiments at the expense of modern and more humane technologies.

EU Bans Use of Great Apes in Animal Research
SEPTEMBER 8, 2010
Europe banned the use of great apes in animal testing Wednesday as part of drastically tightened rules to scale back the number of animals used in scientific research. After two years of heated debate on how to protect animal welfare without scuppering scientific research, the new limits, updating regulations from 1986, were adopted by the European Parliament despite objections from Green MEPs. Some may disagree, but I think this is a huge victory.
What if the Public Truly Probed Animal Research Funding?

Growing Number of Scientists Question Animal Research
APRIL 4, 2009
The feud between animal rights activists and researchers is among the bitterest in science. But many researchers - although adamant that animal research remains critical to finding cures and expanding medical knowledge - have come to concede that using creatures as human stand-ins is unnecessary for many procedures. Plus, animals are messy, require feeding and constant care, draw protests, and, yes, can be a bit smelly.
