Although I love dogs they're too dependent on humans, it's true that stray/feral dogs can form packs and survive in the wild a regular dog like a golden retriever would get eaten by a lion instantly. Horses live in groups. In my opinion dogs would be the first to go. Cats would be the next. Horses have a good chance.

Several months ago, a group of bat researchers spent the night recording the sounds of a marshy Spanish forest. A group of researchers at the N.C. Feral cats have been able to adapt very well in Australia and have grown larger over the years and can survive in areas that you would not expect. Feral cat predation on Pied Oystercatcher eggs. The colorful Purple Swamphen ( Porphyrio porphyrio ) lives in wetlands from Portugal and Senegal all the way east to New Zealand and the Samoan Islands, and a feral population is now well established in Florida. There are numerous subspecies in this group; if split, they could be called Australasian Swamphen , Porphyrio melanotus.

Rabbit Meadows is a rescue group out of Seattle. Our first rescue mission was at a business park in Redmond where we saved 650 feral rabbits from the ultimate fate of the arriving bulldozers. As the name suggests, they rescue rabbits, but they also rescue other small animals like ferrets, and other small rodents.

They had to close their Poo Ponds to tourists/birders recently due to a feral dog problem, but this has been addressed and access is now possible. Those that had stayed had bred, though and there are a few family groups. We are not allowed into our ponds, so they are very lucky in Alice Springs. Of course there are always warnings!
