I am still tired from the long drive, but it was great to play with the very best toys for birders, to be able to share experiences and to ask the factory staff all sorts of silly questions. Monterrey is a big industrial city, with industrious people. Amazingly, everyone showed up at dawn except for one person, who’d had a near-death experience with me on Colombia’s Sumapaz paramo, an acceptable excuse for a no-show. The day was only minutes old and we already had 32 species on the day list. It was amazing.

Some eager beavers have already broken triple digits for the year while less industrious sorts may not even be in double digits. I enjoyed my first wave of feeder birds for the year, with Tufted Titmouse winning BBOTW honors only because that species appears less frequently than my other local denizens.

Its mood is not helped by the ambiguous review on eBird: “Although not actually pale, this brownish songbird is one of the plainer thrushes in its range” The Latin species name of the Dusky Thrush is eunomos (I guess that is Greek, but whatever) – meaning well-ordered. They also eat more when together with other people.
