I am still tired from the long drive, but it was great to play with the very best toys for birders, to be able to share experiences and to ask the factory staff all sorts of silly questions. It comes as no surprise that more than 350 bird species have been recorded here. impressive for Central Europe.

Ears filled with birdsong and no industrial hum? Many moons ago, when I used to work in the (supposedly) booming petrochemical industry in Trinidad, most of my time was actually spent birding. Although relatively common here they’re notoriously difficult to see well – a phenomenon clearly not unique to this species !

Though I have already detailed my experience that day I felt that it was worthwhile to give a fuller account of what was going on along the coast on Long Island, in New York City proper, and up the Hudson River wherever storm-tossed birds were spotted. The storm surge at The Battery on the southern shore of Manhattan reached 4.0
