The Latin species name is dissimilis (different, unlike), possibly because the female looks quite different from the male (though based on that explanation, dissimilis would have to be a very common species name). There are 7 species of them, and according to eBird, you can see 5 of them at Baihualing. Then it is tame.

Having already decided not to show you any of the three owl species I saw in Nanhui in 2019 again, I decided to cheat a bit with my last entry – Asian Barred Owlet , not seen in Shanghai but rather in Hangzhou, about 200 km away from here. As I look back at my eBird species list, it is astonishing how many of my lifers were first seen there. To my shock, I had a wonderful outing, with 63 species seen in six hours.
