A friend of mine has been begging me to come over to document a nesting pair of Plumbeous Kites in her property but life has gotten in the way thus far. Perhaps his first attempt at raising a family – I’ll be checking on him in a few days! A young male Swallow Tanager holding a bit of nesting material.

Streaks, Variegations, and Pirates

Unlike brood parasites, they raise their own young in their pirated nest. The bird pictured below seems to have rufous on its rump, but this is merely the well-documented rusty cinnamon or fulvous edging on the uppertail coverts of a Piratic Flycatcher.

I started the campaign for the protection of Beljarica, raising public awareness and collecting more than 10,000 petition signatures, not only because of its Eurasian Otters , White-tailed Eagles , Black Storks , Icterine and Eastern Olivaceous Warblers , etc., but because this large spillway protects the city from flooding.

It might be about time for HBW to document this split as well … not sure why they do not update this. Not very subtle in their self-presentation, these birds. The Black-rumped Magpie is one of the four new species that were split from the Eurasian Magpie in 2018. Maybe they are not that much into birds?
