A sour IPA called Mash Up the Jam depicted what we decided was a cartoonish Eurasian Tree Sparrow ( Passer montanus ) in a comical send-up of Peter and the Wolf. And with Stranger than Fiction , a porter, we got a beautifully painted Eurasian Eagle-Owl ( Bubo bubo ).

Dawn broke somewhere on the way down and was accompanied by two species of caracaras patrolling the roads, a motmot or two on the wires, and early morning on the edge of the ocean. In shape and behavior, the caracaras reminded me of Ravens that fly along the highways far to the north, likewise looking for the remains of unfortunate animals.

This is why the Yellow Warblers and Baltimore Orioles of summer don’t linger to experience October 31st, and even late fall migrants like kinglets and sparrows move to slightly warmer regions. I already have a history of searches for this species. Europe: Then I spotted an easy and obvious one, the Black-eared Wheatear, while the group climbing the steep hillside found the Rock Nuthatch, as well as the Rock Sparrow , striped, pale and indescribable.
