While not my quite my first sighting of an Olive-sided Flycatcher for 2020, this difficult species is always a welcome find as it makes it way through Mexico to reach Central and South America.

So, on April 13th, I chose to go back to the same site I visited on my first outing of 2020, Lake Cuitzeo. Of all North America’s Plovers that may migrate, only the Snowy and the Killdeer breed this far south. This Plover is a Semipalmated, and should be leaving for Canada any day now.

They breed along the Arctic Circle in Canada and Alaska, and winter in southern South America, often in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. 2020 yielded a single sighting; 2019, two; 2018, four.
