Not only did we observe the bird species most days, but we also had the privilege of observing them at a nest. It was also interesting to note how clumsily the Oriental Pied Hornbill appear to get around the trees and that such a large bird can disappear so easily into a tall dense tree.

Conventional wisdom, up until a couple of years ago, was that the two birds’ breeding range overlapped only in a narrow area in the middle of Baffin Island. Endemic to the Guianan shield, this species has captivated me since I first laid eyes on a photograph of it. The Point-tailed Palmcreeper is a strange bird in all senses.
