Whether made of asphalt, gravel, or dirt, they help us reach more birding sites in less time. In Costa Rica, one of the best “end of the road” places for birding and getting crazy with biodiversity is the Osa Peninsula. Lots of monkeys there too. Nevertheless, as expected, the birding was damn great.

If we assume (probably incorrectly) that of apes and monkeys, they all descended from a monkey like ancestor, than apes are monkeys.

Birds with white on them are much more likely to take the form of goodies like the Snowy Cotinga , or two species of tityras. Masked Tityra – the most frequently encountered small bird in Costa Rica with white plumage. The Caribbean slope of Costa Rica also differs from the islands in having a lot more bird species.

With a transit time of at least two hours from any of the accommodations typically used for birding, this relatively pristine area is awash with surprises. Back in 2014 we stumbled upon a juvenile Double-toothed Kite and that was the first and only time I have ever seen that species well.
