In the most of Europe, Brown Bear is a mythical creature that lives only in mediaeval tapestries and folk tales. In the European Union there are only 10,000 mature bears (source: IUCN). Not much further, on the new tarmac that ends 6 km before the Gramos village, we find muddy bear footprints crossing the road.

Jumping out of my “Beat” today

Let me start off with being quite clear, there are no grizzly Bears on the Baja! All of which, was for one a one day shoot with the famed bears, as they dined on the fall salmon run. In addition to the Grizzly Bears , I was able to photograph Woodland Buffalo , squirrels, deer, Red Fox , and even a herd of Yaks. Savanah Sparrow.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of April 2018)

Migrants are on the move, if you can bear to be out looking for them! In between ice storms, I visited Brighton’s Brickyard Trail, a nice little walk that can be excellent for sparrows. What do you know, I spotted my FOY Swamp Sparrow in song, along with about a hundred Song Sparrows , also in song.

Bright and Brighter

Backlighting showed off the rusty crown of this Rusty-crowned Ground-Sparrow. Oddly enough, it is the Western Bluebird that bears the taxonomic name of Sialia mexicana ; but in my experience, the Eastern Bluebird ( Sialia sialia ) is much more common in most of Mexico. The Hepatic Tanager is perhaps our most common resident tanager.
