This track will lead you to the Halls Creek Poo Ponds and these are by far the best Poo Ponds in the north of Western Australia! Sawpit Gorge.

Keep an eye to the sky if you happen to be in Darwin, Australia, at the start of the wet season because that is when Red-collared Lorikeets are most likely to be getting drunk on fermenting fruit. They lose coordination, and they lose their fear of humans. They have trouble flying. Fermented fruit – Lorikeet-speak for beer?

We had last experienced this cheerful family of birds in Katherine in the Northern Territory over 13 years ago, so although the population is isolated there they had the same characteristics. They roam in family groups varying from eight birds upwards and have a certain confidence about themselves as they strut around the bush.

One of the most intriguing birds around Broome is the Great Bowerbird. We often see them flying from place to place collecting items for their bowers and they are rather clever at imitating other birds vocal sounds. They visit our garden for water, but we have not noticed them removing anything for their bowers.

Grey Plovers tend to be in small loose flocks or solitary birds on this beach and avoid the larger flocks of shorebirds or stand on the edge of the flock. It is interesting that of all of the species of shorebirds in the Broome area the Grey Plover is a bird we don’t see lying on the beach. Grey Plovers and Ruddy Turnstones.

Pied Oystercatchers do live a very long time and local metal leg band and engraved flag marking on several birds has shown that many are over twenty years old.
