Birds at the Breezy Point Tip

On Saturday morning I decided to look for early migrants and lingering winter birds out at the southeasternmost part of Queens, the tip of Breezy Point. And, of course, it is a great spot to see scoters and other seaducks, especially from the jetty, the tip of which is far as you can go in Queens without getting into the ocean.

He wrote a column , not for Audubon, but for the Orlando Sentinal , in which he advocated the killing of feral cats instead of the use of trap-neuter-release. Feral cats kill birds by the billions in the United States and the only real solution to the problem is removal and euthanasia, along with heavy fines for those caught dumping cats.

Tiphys died either of a snakebite or of a mysterious illness but he was not killed by either a tiger or a rhinoceros. On one occasion, he tried catching a cobra by the tail and got bitten on the tip of finger which he slashed with a pocket knife. I guess he should have stuck with the substantially less dangerous trogons.
