Birding Tradition: the New Year’s Day List

10,000 Birds

One of my more memorable New Year’s days was in the Falkland Islands, back in 1989.

Grallards: New Zealand’s Next Extinction or Newest Species?

10,000 Birds

New Zealand had, once upon a time, some fairly spectacular game birds, including massive flightless geese, massive flightles rails, and really enormous moa. Birders Love Wastewater Treatment Plants

10,000 Birds

The fence surrounding the facility is bordered by a dense mixed forest of pine and deciduous trees giving several sparrow and finch species a good location to hang out and observe the birders.
