This one was so good it caught two fish at a time (just once though). They do like to supplement their diet with small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects. As I’ve posted before they are efficient and merciless hunters. They are aided by excellent binocular vision that lines up with their dagger-like bill.

African Spoonbills seem unfazed by large reptiles. For some reason, I found them on average less impressive than raptors elsewhere – almost “big brown jobs”, possibly because quite a few of them were juveniles. Most likely, the devil, not god created this species. I guess you just get used to them with time.
