Leucistic Ruddy Duck Oxyura jamaicensis

What I am getting at here is that I have seen lots and lots of Ruddy Ducks at Jamaica Bay but never one that looked like this particular individual. She was essentially cream-colored, much lighter than the typical female Ruddy Duck. Anyway, enjoy the images and keep an eye out for odd ducks! Go check it out! Get yours today!

The rooms are floating in a pond and the pond provides a home for a Eurasian Beaver family. Definitely, lack of songbirds. While driving along the Trekvaart canal I spotted hundreds of Tufted Duck with a nice sprinkling of Smew , Common Pochard and Common Goldeneye. Skeins of Greylag Geese completed the picture.

Geographic appellations definitely have their place; if you have Andean Teal on your life list, you almost certainly visited the Andes. Case in point, calling Aythya collaris a Ring-necked Duck highlights perhaps the least obvious thing about it, whereas its kissing cousin A. fuligula is most definitely a Tufted Duck.
