Giving the bird a wide berth I veered towards the other side of the road, assuming she would fly off. I felt compelled to go back and see if the bird was just being fickle, or if it was something else. We should return to the issue of plant molecules and the good stuff they can do, vis-a-vis birds. Birds use potpourri, and apparently, to good effect. Insects ruled. It seemed whoever set the trap had ‘released’ the injured eagle upon finding him, as the bird could not have freed himself without the loss of the entire foot. This bird was lucky to be found and rescued by a Good Samaritan in this remote area. We immediately started the bird on Clavamox for infection, and Tramadol for pain.

The sojourns with various close-to-the-earth, oh-so-spiritual jungle peoples made me worry that I’d stumbled onto a manuscript for Eat, Pray, Bird. Part of me, then, rolled her eyes at this book.
