Note the short legs, stout body and white rump and tail I see Muntjac on virtually every birding (or dog-walking) outing, as these small Asian deer are now very numerous around my home in the Suffolk Brecks. He complained they were eating the grass he wanted for his horses. I’ve encountered Red Deer in almost as many countries, too.

I am driving down the dirt track in the Carska Bara Ramsar site (Serbia) and a cloud of dust closely follows me, like a rider on a pale horse. Just for fun, it seems – joie de vivre? Alongside the road are European Stonechats , White Storks and the flute-like song of the Eurasian Golden Oriole comes from some thickets.

I have received countless numbers of wild birds mangled and/or killed by outdoor/feral cats, such as the Orange-crowned Warbler pictured here. It sickens me. Is it the fault of the cats?
