Anytime I’m shopping in a good local beer shop, I’m always sure to look for any offerings from Collective Arts Brewing. Not only does the Hamilton, Ontario brewery make some great beer, but – as the name suggests – Collective Arts is an enthusiastic supporter of creativity outside of the brewing arts – namely music and visual arts.

Truth be told, I picked up this week’s beer long before we embarked on this surreal “three-hour tour” we are now collectively enduring.

However, my current favourite member of the family Cucilidae is the Great Spotted Cuckoo (GSC), a common bird in Cyprus in spring. Birds that nest in southern Africa winter to the north in the tropics, while birds that breed in southern Europe and Turkey migrate south to, you guessed it, tropical Africa.

Even Eagles Aren’t Immune …

These “allegedly artsy” Golden Eagles courtesy of Corey. Fish and Wildlife Service caps at five the number of Golden Eagles that members of the Hopi tribe can collect from neighboring Navajo lands. The permit allows the Hopis a total of 40 birds that may be sacrificed for use in religious ceremonies.

Birding Beljarica in August

Last month, I birded my favourite local patch, Beljarica – the best eBird hotspot in Belgrade city and the 3rd best in Serbia – four times. One consequence of being near the city is the widespread feeding of birds with what is junk-food for them – bread. With more than 30 birds, Black Storks became truly common.
