We have observed the first Pied Oystercatcher chicks of 2019 over the past two weeks grow steadily. Over the two weeks since I first introduced you to this family of Pied Oystercatchers there has been a lot of walking. In the photo below the chick in front of the adult on the right is rearranging its breast feathers!

Great Shearwater – At this point, seabirds are my weakest family in Queens with the most species having reported in the borough that I have not seen. I achieved five lifers in Michoacán in 2019, four in 2020, three in 2021, and only two in 2022. And this one’s was definitely when a bird briefly took wing just to the left of our path, only to settle right back down to the ground. With this sighting, I have now seen four of Michoacán’s six members of the Nightjar family.
