The source of this ranking, BirdLife International, lists Bolivia as currently having 1,439 bird species, including 18 breeding endemics. The guide covers 1,433 species, the number of birds documented at the end of 2014, the cutoff point for the book.

Raising my binoculars, I picked out not only Turkey Vultures , with their red heads and silver flight feathers, but also Black Vultures , with gray heads and just their wing tips sporting silver. We ended the day with over a dozen species for me and six or seven landed fish for Brian. Definitely a prime photo opportunity!

This park protects the largest remaining tract of dry deciduous forest in the west of India, offering visitors 37 species of reptiles, 38 species of mammals and, not to be forgotten – almost 300 bird species. Black Oyster-catchers will usually be found on the rocks too, but this morning each of these species gave their best views in the receding waves. There is a raised, walled area to the right (north towards the entrance of the bay). Pigeon Guillemots will often be seen fairly close in, often around areas of surf scum.

It resembles a thick-walled mud cup, tipped through 90° with a mud screen at the front allowing access round the side. A pair may stay together for many years if they manage to successfully raise young together, but they will commonly build a new nest for each season. There’s no way around it as the various species are reasonably common, and you will surely want to identify them. Plain / unmarked in Savi’s and with distinct pale tips in River. completely overlap in these species, and it is very doubtful they can safely be separated in the field on visuals alone.
