Kentucky: First in Crane Hunting?

10,000 Birds

As part of my effort to keep concerned wildlife enthusiasts informed about the proposal to hunt Eastern Flyway sandhill cranes, it is my duty to tell you that there’s another vote coming up. Gassett’s answering machine, which someone calling to protest the hunt is likely to encounter, is a similar message about the quality of crane meat.

What is the State Bird of New Mexico?

10,000 Birds

In fact, they are central to many Mexican and Native American spiritual beliefs, and have been named the state bird of New Mexico. The “Turkeys” of Costa Rica

10,000 Birds

This spectacular, turkey-like bird roams the floor of tropical forests from eastern Mexico south to northwestern Ecuador. This means that they probably can’t withstand any sort of hunting pressure, and given the lack of Great Curassows in most accessible parts of their range, that is probably the case.

The estuary at San Jose Del Cabo

10,000 Birds

The first thing most people think of when the Baja, Mexico comes up, is “Cabo” or Cabo San Lucas, as it is officially called. A big surprise was a Northern Harrier hunting along the waterway. Squid Row, Cabo Crazies, and of course the Spring Break follies! The biggest surprise came when I least expected it.
