Considering Broome often experiences cyclones and strong winds it does make sense for the birds to build a more substantial nest to survive the extreme weather. The Crested Pigeon family remained in the tree away from danger for quite some time with both parents present.

The Wood-Rails like to move around in a very visible group. We were happy to experience three birds of prey on this jaunt. Two classic birds of Mexico’s east coast are also present. So I was delighted when the Seminary grounds turned out to host at least 6 of these beautiful birds. The Brown Jay is noisy, large, and bold.

While heavy rains can’t compare with blizzards or the dearth of species in the frozen lands, constant rain does present challenges to bird counts. Inside the forest, we did well with finding a group of White-fronted Nunbirds flocking with Scarlet-rumped Caciques, Chestnut-headed Oropendolas, Rufous Mourner , and a few other birds.

Birders throughout the Americas can experience the chalenges of Gull, Tern, New World Warbler, and Tyrant Flycatcher identification. (My My region, thankfully, only seems to host migratory Hermit Thrushes from this group. As is this one. Little Brown Job!
