Our group, led by world-renowned guide Herbert Byaruhanga, piled into canoes ostensibly to search for a variety of papyrus and wetland specialties, but really we were just looking for the shoebill.

These are bird groups that have been covered extensively by other guides. Armistead and Brian L. It is an intriguing choice of species.

At first, the birds were absent, it was just that one shearwater, a sad lost Eastern Kingbird flying low over the waves, and groups of Brown Boobies making a beeline to feeding grounds. Most photos in this post were taken by Diego Quesada of Birding Experiences. a couple sea turtles, and a jumping sailfish but no birds.

If you are into amazing avian-dense trail experiences, you either want to bird Pipeline Road or want to bird it again. But this type of singular experience can be enjoyed in the Old World as well. While the species sounds delicious, the nearly tailless bird presents a very bland appearance.

Of course, this factoid should be presented with a photo of a male, not a female rosefinch. In my experience, people eat more food they are familiar with than food that is unfamiliar. In truth, it is present in many parts of China (not mentioned) but not really in Tibet. They also eat more when together with other people.

For me, that experience encompassed an entire trip to Picayune Strand. In some places, so many Roseate Spoonbills joined the group that the sky appeared awash in pink. Raptors were also ever-present, perching on branches to stare solemnly down at our Swamp Buggy parade.

Just under a fortnight ago, I saw a report on the local bird alert of a sighting of a group of approximately 20 Nacunda Nighthawks at a wetland not more than 20 minutes from where I live. Especially as we were at the time about to experience a rapidly advancing tropical storm. Great Blue Heron.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Colusa NWR was beginning to fill its impoundments during this drought, and there were quite a few ducks and geese present. This incredible group of birds foraging in this wetland created an amazing jumble of sound. This one has a small tidbit held in the very tip of its beak.
