Suit Filed Over Cows Killed to Drive Up Milk Prices

The class-action lawsuit accuses companies of slaughtering thousands of cows just to decrease supply. Animal rights group Compassion Over Killing was the first to uncover the alleged systematic slaughter of healthy dairy cows in California.

A surprise Orange Chat

The Orange Chat was clearly feeding on insects and taking advantage of the cow pats in the area. There is a Yellow Chat in both of the photos below to the right of the Orange Chat. However – and I am not saying this out of misplaced national pride – there is one bird in the Netherlands that proves Jefferson wrong and Buffon right: the White-tailed Eagle (or Sea Eagle ). My hotel was right on the A6 motorway and despite the strange location it is undoubtedly the best hotel for the Oostvaardersplassen.

Eastern Meadowlarks, cowbirds, grackles , and a few other birds are at peace with the cows but for most birds on Poas, the forest is where life is living large. At least most of the resident species can still be seen right along the road, you just have to keep an eye out for cyclists and vehicles on their way up and down the volcano.

The local levee warden sometimes shepherds his cows here, and the eagle would stand right above him, giving him no second glance. At first I stopped to admire it, then came a bit closer, but still giving it space so it would feel safe. I am a stranger in his realm.
