Off the coast of northern California, Sooty Shearwater are common and are seen on virtually all pelagic birding trips. There were so many birds flying so close to the few of us who happened to be there (mostly dog walkers) that there was concern that we’d actually get hit by a careening shearwater.

Since I have never found a well-designed birdbath for sale here, I have used a pair of large, waterproof pot saucers.

And there are towns where packs of dogs are roaming about and keeping people indoors. Lots of "guard dogs" outdoors for their entire lives, etc.

The states which have essentially banned leghold traps are Florida, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts, California, and Washington.

Don’t assume your dog is tick-free just because you can’t readily see one. You may not spend much time outdoors, but if your dog does, then you can get a tick, too. Above all, check your dog for ticks frequently. They can resemble freckles, moles or even specks of dirt. Also, they can hide behind floppy ears or in long fur.
