The lighthouse at the point itself has been a nest-site to a pair of Eastern Ospreys for many years and they fish in the waters around the point. The most common morph of the Eastern Reef Egret around Broome is the grey morph rather than the white morph and there are several birds present in the rock pools once the tide drops.

Piney Z lake is not large, bisected by a berm that parallels the land-trail as well as a series of fishing earthen fingers that stretch out into the water at regular intervals. Nosing our kayaks between the trunks of bald cypress trees, we watched two Osprey eating fish on their large, stick-filled nest.

It continued to fish, working its way slowly along the bank while the blackbird continued its assault. The only acknowledgement that the heron even noticed its attacker was a slightly raise crest. Despite taking thumps that could be heard across the water, the heron seemed almost oblivious to its attacker.

Whilst leading a birding tour to Sri Lanka, I spotted a flash of bright white in a lily-choked wetland near Ambalantota in the south-east of this verdant island. Fish and Wildlife Service granted a permit March 9 to the Northern Arapaho Tribe allowing it either to kill or capture and release two bald eagles this year. They say the tribe could raise captive birds, or accept eagle feathers or carcasses already available from a federal repository that collects birds killed by power lines or other causes.

Since 2006 a pair of Bald Eagles ( Haliaeetus leucocephalus ) nesting at Turtle Bay in Redding California have successfully raised a dozen eaglets! Not to disappoint, Patriot flies in a fresh fish from the Sacramento River. This year when the pair returned to Turtle Bay, they decided to build a new nest in an adjacent tree.
