Streaks, Variegations, and Pirates

10,000 Birds

With my recent relocation to the central forests of Trinidad, I have been afforded the incredible opportunity of observing three oft-confused species in close proximity to one another. In reality these species are rarely in the same place at the same time, however! All the more reason to keep birding!

Birding Jianfengling, Hainan (A-H)

10,000 Birds

The Black-throated Laughingthrush on Hainan is a distinct subspecies (or maybe a full species, Swinhoe’s Laughingthrush, in which case the poor birds would not have to travel to their mainland no-longer-relatives anymore during Chinese New Year). Birding Shanghai in May 2022

10,000 Birds

Some of the more conservative Light-vented Bulbuls in my compound were trying to make the wearing of a tie mandatory for the species. The male at work.

Birding Chongming Island in summer

10,000 Birds

According to Couzens, after laying the eggs, females sometimes immediately abandon their first mate and pair up with another male. I gave up my US citizenship a few years ago and looking at recent events such as “Right vs. Wrong”, it was one of my better decisions. Sounds like clever behavior by the parrotbills, right?
